Sun Valley Reporter Today's Tips
A COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER BY LINDA GRIDLEY

First, let’s start with the name of this area’s neighborhood association, “Sun Valley.” The title may seem limiting and possibly exclusive to the area as a whole considering it includes Rafael Highlands, Forbes and Racquet Club. When the association was established, the name was “Neighborhood 13”. Somewhere along the line “Sun Valley Neighborhood Association” was chosen. I believe the idea was to move away from a number to something friendlier and to select a name that included the general area. But please know that if you are in the surrounding areas not technically in the Sun Valley map lines, you are still very much a part of the association if you choose to be and your input and ideas area always welcome. Fairhills has their own association, but many of the issues discussed at the meetings such as the cemetery changes and how they affect the neighborhood, the renovation to Sun Valley Park, changes to the traffic flow or walking path to Sun Valley School, updates with the Sun Valley market, etc. may be of interest to other area residents as well. So if you are receiving information from the association and you do not live in Sun Valley exactly, please don’t feel left out. The same goes for my newsletter. Started 14 years ago, I struggled with the title because it goes out to Fairhills, Forbes, Rafael Highlands, Racquet Club and Sun Valley. I finally selected the Sun Valley Reporter because I felt it did the best job of encompassing the area as a whole. Please know that the newsletter is meant to include issues and information that may interest everyone in the general Sun Valley area.

The neighborhood Association has requested reps from each area mentioned above. I am the rep for the area from California Streets to H Street and from Fifth Avenue to Forbes within California and H. Paul Ingel is the rep from Sun Valley market down to the cemetery and all street in between. The association is still looking for reps for Racquet Club and Rafael Highlands. As a rep, you are the “go to” person for anyone in your area who cannot attend the meetings and has issues, concerns or ideas for their area. Please contact your rep if you would like to bring anything to the attention of the association. To volunteer as a rep or for more information on the association contact:
Gail and George Mills at ggmills@pacbell.net.
To reach your area reps:

To find out the date of the next SVNA meeting, call or email Gail Mills and ask to be added to the email list. 453-4206 or ggmills@pacbell.net.

Sun Valley Market - You may have noticed some upgrades and changes inside, and it sounds like they are planning to replace the awning this Spring!

Rafael Racquet Club - Don’t forget that you can dine at the Racquet Club whether or not you are a member. That includes Tuesday night take out. These meals are delicious and a great way to take the night off from the kitchen. For a menu and to place your order call Phillip 415. 497. 4211 or phillipwgreen@hotmail.com

The Cemetery- Paul Ingel is the point person for info regarding the cemetery. I have heard conflicting stories on the proposed changes & differing reports regarding access from neighbors who have attempted their hike on the ridge beginning at the cemetery. If you have opinions, be sure to contact Paul so he can best direct you .
